Why I chose to pursue a career in healthcare: My mother told me that I had a particular interest in helping people. Starting at the early age of 5, I would take care of all the medical needs that my toy dolls required. This became a goal that I carried through my adolescent years, making me want to pursue my passion for caring for the needs of others. After graduating college at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where I majored in Biology and Psychology. I returned home to Maryland where I attended medical school at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. Eventually, I became fascinated with surgery while in medical school and this lead to my career working in general surgery.
